Success for Reech and her ZENDRA consortium: DigitalTwin for alpine solar plants enters phase 3 with financial support

With ALPIN QUATTRO® DigitalTwin, the Zendra consortium is demonstrating how alpine photovoltaics can be implemented efficiently and economically. Thanks to financial support from the canton of Graubünden, phase 3 is now underway—an important milestone for winter electricity production in Switzerland.

The alpine solar power plants that are part of the “Solarexpress” project are a key project for winter electricity production in Switzerland. To ensure that they can be planned efficiently, reliably, and economically, the Graubünden-based joint venture Zendra AG—consisting of REECH AG, X STATIK AG, and InfraDigital AG—is working on the ALPIN QUATTRO® DigitalTwin.

With a great deal of pioneering spirit, the consortium has quickly demonstrated with the ALPIN QUATTRO® system solution how alpine photovoltaics can be implemented in a technically feasible and economically viable manner. From the outset, the DigitalTwin has been a fundamental component of the system solution, as it significantly mitigates the typical challenges of alpine open-space photovoltaics, such as complex terrain, short construction times, and extreme weather conditions. The DigitalTwin project has been progressing in stages since 2023 and is now being supported again by the canton of Graubünden in its third phase.

With its commitment on August 14, 2025, the Graubünden government is supporting this phase with a cantonal contribution of CHF 218,000. The funding is provided within the framework of the law on promoting digital transformation in Graubünden. This renewed funding is not only financial support, but also clear recognition of the consortium’s achievements to date.

In phase 3, the DigitalTwin will be further expanded and optimized for practical use. This will create a central tool that strengthens the competitiveness of energy, construction, and logistics companies in Graubünden – and makes an important contribution to sustainable winter electricity production. For the consortium, the commitment is a milestone – and a strong signal that innovation from Graubünden can develop a nationwide impact.

«The support of the canton of Graubünden gives us planning security and momentum to take alpine photovoltaics to the next level.»

Current implementation projects

Further development is running parallel to the use of the system solution in three of the four projects currently under construction under the “Solarexpress” banner: Sedrun, Madrisa, and Sidenplangg (UR). These projects impressively demonstrate that vision and implementation go hand in hand.
