«It’s all about people» – why local talents matter

What strategies can be adopted in rural areas to encourage innovation? “Graubünden instead of the big city” – our Chairman Rudolf Minsch talks to FHGR about challenges and potential.

The interview in the FH Graubünden “Wissensplatz” article with our president of the board emphasizes that the region’s strength lies not in individual highly specialized experts, but in “decathletes” – people who combine multiple skills and respond flexibly to new challenges. Targeted training and further education produce such all-rounders, who bring both technical know-how and business acumen to the table. This promotes a view beyond disciplinary boundaries, creates the basis for interdisciplinarity, and forms the central driver of innovation.

«When people with different perspectives, ways of thinking, and expertise work together, new ideas often emerge that would not be conceivable within a single field. This is precisely where places such as Technopark Graubünden in Landquart, the Löwenberg-sil association in Schluein, Innoqube Swiss in Chur, and the planned Innhub in La Punt come in: they create places where this kind of thinking becomes possible – through exchange, cooperation, and access to shared resources. Entrepreneurs at Technopark Graubünden do not work in isolation, but can benefit from each other. Instead of operating in narrow “specialist bubbles,” such exchanges with other industries give rise to new applications.»

Continuous innovation and knowledge exchange are important for Graubünden. That is why clear strategies and competence building for start-ups and partnerships are needed – and above all cooperation and exchange: “It’s all about people” – and that is why these decathletes are needed.
